Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

First 10 min

Warm Through, Find the Bounce

We heat the body up and drop into a groove, because even the hardest-hitting commercial rides on a loose bounce underneath. Sort the bounce first and every sharp thing you stack on afterwards lands twice as clean.

10–22 min

Isolations and Hits

You grind through isolations — head alone, chest alone, shoulders alone — and the crisp hits that stab through commercial choreography, drilling the knack of stopping stone dead on a beat and making it look like nothing at all.

22–36 min

Drops, Levels, Front

Level changes, drops and a dose of pure front are added in — the stuff that hauls commercial clear of plain steps. We walk them either side at half speed so they read clean long before anyone asks for quick.

36–50 min

Learn the Choreography

The pieces knit into a short routine over a track pulled from the current charts, dealt out eight counts at a time and built up so you can feel it turning into a whole number instead of a random pile of steps.

Last 10 min

Take It Full-Out

Volume up, camera energy on, and we run the routine top to tail, so you leave having actually delivered something start to finish — and knowing in your bones why commercial is so hard to put down.

About Commercial Classes in Ipswich

Commercial dance classes in Ipswich are the ones that come out looking like the video — crisp, punchy routines set to the pop and chart tracks already saved on your phone, thrown down full-throttle with the swagger that makes choreography leap off a screen. The town has a proper street-and-commercial pulse to plug into as well: Lait Dance Club and the Suffolk Academy of Dance and Performing Arts have kept hip-hop, street and commercial moving through Ipswich for years, so the style stands on real local ground rather than something imported for the week.

Nobody auditions and nobody needs pairing up — commercial is a solo dance you do shoulder to shoulder in a group, every face to the mirror, all chewing through the same routine at whatever level they walked in on. We open on groove, posture and clean isolations, feed in the hits and the drops that hand commercial its bite, and only then stack choreography over the top, dealt out in small eight-count chunks so the number assembles itself rather than flattening you.

There is even a modest decades thread to tip a hat to: Nik Kershaw, one of the eighties' sharpest pop songwriters, grew up here in Ipswich and gigged around local bands long before the solo singles arrived, so the town has form for making a chart record stick. Rooms run from the Cornhill and Buttermarket end of the centre out to the Waterfront by the marina, address confirmed when you book, and for groups we will travel out to you across Ipswich and Suffolk. Every class is a flat £8 on the night. Lace up trainers with a clean sole and wear kit you can fling about and sweat through.

Why Choose Commercial in Ipswich?

Real foundations, every level

Groove, isolations and hits get taught properly instead of skipped, so a first-timer stays in the pack while a returner sharpens up. One routine, and everyone dances it at the level they are actually on.

Choreography made to be filmed

Commercial is built to look right through a lens, so what you take away feels current, sharp and genuinely worth a recording — the sort of routine you find yourself wanting to send round.

One of a crowd, no partner

There is no partner and no lone spotlight — you dance inside the group, facing the mirror, which is about the gentlest on-ramp there is to the confidence commercial actually runs on.

Right across Ipswich

Classes land near the Cornhill and Buttermarket or down on the Waterfront by the marina, address given on booking, and a private group can have the session brought out to them across Ipswich and Suffolk.

Your Commercial Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

Weeks 1–2 — Bounce and Bite

The groove beds in

Two weeks along, the bounce underneath quits feeling awkward, and all at once the hits have something firm to punch down onto.

Hits get their edge

Stamping to a halt on a beat feels foreign for a class or two, then abruptly does not — and that flick of control is what makes commercial pop on camera.

02

Weeks 3–6 — Building the Routine

A kit of moves

You bank a clutch of commercial steps and hits you can fire off on request, both sides, with no little countdown running ahead of each one.

Riding the accents

You start hitting the beats and the breaks square on rather than somewhere in the neighbourhood, and the routine tips over from roughly-right into genuinely sharp.

03

Months 2–3 — Whole Numbers

The routines lengthen

Choreography runs longer and swaps facings, and you snap up fresh eight-counts quicker because the groundwork has gone onto autopilot.

Playing to the lens

Put two dancers on the identical routine and they start looking nothing alike — that is the crossover from copying the steps to performing them.

04

Ongoing — Your Own Stamp

A flavour that's yours

You lace in attitude and styling that single your dancing out, so a shared routine leaves the floor looking like nobody else in the room.

Keep at it, no strings

At £8 a session and nothing to sign, you can keep filing the edges off for as long as you fancy — plenty stay as much for the tunes and the crew as the choreography.

Commercial in Ipswich FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

How does commercial differ from street? +

Commercial pulls toward the glossy, music-video, pop-and-chart choreography you see stacked behind artists on stage, while street sits nearer hip-hop's raw origins. They share plenty, and we teach the groove that underpins both, but our commercial class points itself at sharp, stage-ready routines.

Is any experience assumed? +

None at all. We open on groove, isolations and hits, so a total newcomer starts with everything they need. The foundations get retaught every week rather than taken for granted.

Will I be paired with anyone? +

No — commercial is danced solo inside a group. You face the mirror and run your own version alongside the room, which keeps the nerves comfortably at arm's length.

What footwear and clothing works? +

Trainers with a clean, non-marking sole and comfortable gear you can sweat in. There is no kit to buy — just anything that lets you drop low and hit hard without a second thought.

Is there an age cut-off? +

The advertised adult session runs from roughly 17 up, and the booking form carries younger bands too. Whatever the age of the room, we aim the class at the people standing in it.

What does a class cost? +

A flat £8 on the night, identical to every other class we run in Ipswich. Nothing to join and no block to prepay — you show up on the weeks that suit.

Do you work with Lait or Suffolk Academy? +

We don't. Lait Dance Club, the Suffolk Academy of Dance and Performing Arts and the town's other studios all do fine work and we are happy to send you their way, but there is no affiliation between us — we just run our own beginner-friendly commercial sessions.

Do I leave with a full routine? +

You do. Each run of classes climbs toward a complete routine set to a current track, handed over in small eight-count pieces so it stacks up neatly instead of burying you.

Where in Ipswich do these run? +

Around the Cornhill and the Buttermarket, and down on the Waterfront by the marina, with the address confirmed on booking. Private groups can also have us come out across Ipswich and Suffolk.
