About This Wicked Hen Party Dance Class in Newport

A green-skinned outsider who refuses to be told what she is allowed to become — Wicked has one of the most belted-out finales in modern theatre, and this hen class hands your crew the choreography behind it. You do not need a note of singing or a single dance lesson between you; your choreographer carries the whole session, and by the end the bride is the one rising into the big Defying Gravity moment while the group powers the number around her.

We teach it in layers. The Emerald City ensemble steps come first, blocked out slowly and repeated until the shapes feel natural, then the friendship-turned-rivalry push-and-pull between the two witches gets built on top, and finally the soaring finale where everyone drives forward as one. Newport is a good home for a story about finding your voice against the odds — the city wears that kind of stubborn pride well — and the routine leans into the drama rather than shying from it.

You could learn the whole thing in a hotel function room near the Riverfront, a townhouse out in Rogerstone or a hired studio off Commercial Road, then carry that Emerald swagger down to the bars of Newport Market for the evening. We drive to wherever your group is based across Newport and Gwent for one flat fee, so no one is booking taxis or chasing trains between the class and the cocktails.

What's Included in Your Wicked Hen Party

  • Your own choreographer for the whole session, focused on your group from first count to final pose
  • Sixty or ninety minutes of stage-style Wicked choreography set to a number such as Defying Gravity, Popular or What Is This Feeling
  • Steps taught in short repeatable sections so an outright beginner always keeps up
  • The bride cast as Elphaba with the soaring lead moment saved for her
  • Dramatic ensemble formations and the big lifted arms that sell the finale
  • A final performance run filmed on your phones to take away
  • Music and speaker sorted entirely by us, so you just turn up ready to fly
  • An optional bottle of bubbly for the bride at a flat ten pounds
  • One flat price — £140 for the hour or £165 for ninety minutes, instructor only, with venue hire added only if you need a room

What You'll Experience at Our Wicked Dance Class

  • The whole-room lift of a Defying Gravity finale danced rather than simply heard
  • Character work where the bride finds Elphaba's defiance and the group her wave of support
  • The satisfaction of a whole squad hitting the final power pose on the same beat
  • Theatrical arm lines and level changes that make the number look genuinely staged
  • Plenty of laughing, resets and photo breaks between the dramatic sequences
  • A finished routine with enough punch to reprise later in the night

Perfect For Your Newport Hen Do

  • Brides who want a soaring, emotional showstopper rather than a jokey shuffle
  • Groups who have seen the show and quietly want the green make-up moment
  • Squads blending a few musical-theatre fans with total newcomers
  • A dramatic daytime highlight before an evening around Friars Walk and the Riverfront
  • Best-friend duos and big-birthday reunions as much as hen weekends
  • Anyone chasing goosebumps and a great final photo in equal measure

What Our Hens Say

Wicked hen parties we have taught across Newport.

Wicked

"We wanted the big Defying Gravity moment and we got it. The bride rose up at the centre with the whole group behind her and half of us welled up. Then straight out to Newport Market for cocktails."

— Eluned P. ★★★★★

"Green face paint, dramatic arms, absolute chaos in the best way. Our choreographer had a room of non-dancers looking properly staged inside an hour at our place near the Riverfront."

— Heledd P. ★★★★★

"I booked it thinking it would be silly and it turned out genuinely moving. The friendship duet bit had my best mate and me in fits. Best part of the whole Newport weekend."

— Lowri R. ★★★★★

"None of us could dance and the finale still looked like a real show. Taught so gently, loads of laughing, and the video is unreal. Would book again tomorrow."

— Seren M. ★★★★★

Wicked Hen Party FAQ

Everything you need to know about our Wicked hen party dance class in Newport.

Do we all have to sing? +

Not a note. This is a dance class, not a vocal one — the music does the singing while you perform the choreography. If the group wants to belt along under their breath, brilliant, but nobody is ever put on the spot to sing solo.

We are complete beginners — is Wicked too ambitious? +

Not at all. The routine is built for first-timers and taught in small repeated sections, so the dramatic finale you see at the end is simply lots of easy pieces stacked together. Confidence tends to arrive well before the last run-through.

Does the bride get the Elphaba moment? +

She does. The bride is placed at the centre of the finale with the soaring lead beat reserved for her, while the rest of the group powers the number around her. Tell us if someone else fancies a featured spot and we will work it in.

Will you travel to our venue in Newport? +

Yes. We come to your hotel, Airbnb, house or hired room right across Newport and Gwent — Commercial Street, Maindee, Malpas, Rogerstone, Bettws and out toward Caerleon — at no extra travel cost within the area.

What is the price and duration? +

It is £140 for a full hour or £165 for ninety minutes, charged for the instructor rather than per person, so bigger groups get better value. Venue hire only applies if you need us to find a room, and a bottle of bubbly for the bride can be added at a flat ten pounds.

How big a space do we need? +

Room for the group to spread into a couple of rows with space to lift arms and change levels — a good-sized lounge with furniture pushed back, a function room or a garden room all work fine. We will check your space when you book.
