Class Structure

Beginners Class — 60 Minutes

0–8 min

How to stand together

The hold, unpacked: posture, frame and the courteous geometry that lets two people move as one — taught before a single step is taken.

8–23 min

Waltz foundations

The box step walked solo, then in hold, with rotation from the start — every lead learning to lead anyone, every follow learning to trust the frame.

23–39 min

This week's figure

One figure per class — a natural turn, a whisk, a promenade — broken into feet, then timing, then partnership, and repeated until it feels inevitable.

39–53 min

Travelling the floor

Figures chained into sequences that genuinely move around the room — the moment steps become dancing, and the reason ballroom floors are big.

53–60 min

A full song

One track danced end to end with everything the room knows so far — imperfect, delighted, and visibly better than last week.

About Ballroom Classes in Eastbourne

Ballroom is the family of dances built for occasions: waltz for the romantic ones, foxtrot for the smooth ones, quickstep for the joyful ones, tango for the dramatic ones. Our Eastbourne classes teach the social versions — real technique, real floors, no competition machinery — with rotation as standard and beginners as the working assumption.

It suits this town almost too well. Eastbourne was planned as an elegant resort from the first drawing, and its calendar still fills with the dinners, anniversaries and hotel evenings that a working waltz transforms from ordeal into highlight. No partner is required; the class supplies practice partners by rotation and the occasions will supply the rest.

Each class is £8 on the night — block booking optional and priced exactly the same.

Why Choose Ballroom in Eastbourne?

Occasion insurance

Weddings, cruises, anniversary dinners, hotel ballrooms — ballroom is the most bookable social skill in dance, and this coast keeps the bookings coming.

Rotation as standard

Solo dancers are half of every class — rotation integrates everyone and builds the adaptable frame that real floors demand.

Four dances, shared bones

Waltz, foxtrot, quickstep and tango share fundamentals — master the frame once and each new dance arrives at a discount.

£8 flat

On the night or block-booked, the price is identical — no joining fee, no term commitment, no fine print.

Your Ballroom Journey

From first class to confident dancer — here is how it usually goes.

01

The frame and the waltz

A hold that works

Connected enough to steer, relaxed enough to last — the frame becomes comfortable and everything else becomes possible.

Three-four time

Box step, natural turn, rise and fall — the waltz installs itself and starts humming along to shop radios.

02

The set expands

Foxtrot's glide

The smooth walking dance that covers most of what bands actually play — understated and endlessly useful.

Quickstep's bounce

The bright, skipping cousin arrives once the feet are trustworthy — effort disguised as delight.

03

Real-floor skills

Tango's resolve

Grounded, staccato and decisive — the dance that sharpens leading and following better than any drill.

Floorcraft

Steering through traffic without incident — the unglamorous skill that separates class dancers from social ones.

04

The polish

Sway and style

Shaping and musical phrasing turn correct into elegant — the difference visible from the dinner tables.

Decades of repertoire

There is always another figure, another dance, another occasion — couples who start ballroom rarely stop.

Ballroom in Eastbourne FAQ

Everything you need to know before your first class.

Where do the Eastbourne ballroom classes take place? +

At a studio on the Devonshire Quarter side of town, with floor space for travelling dances. The exact address is confirmed when you book.

What's the cost? +

Each class is £8 on the night — block booking is optional and priced exactly the same, with no joining fee behind either route.

Do I need a partner? +

No — rotation is standard and solo dancers typically make up half the room. Couples who wish to dance only together are welcome to say so and do exactly that.

Which dances will I actually learn? +

Waltz first — the kindest teacher of frame and timing — then foxtrot, quickstep and tango as the foundations settle. Four dances that between them cover nearly every occasion a floor can offer.

Is this like Strictly? +

The same dances without the television — proper waltz, foxtrot, quickstep and tango technique, taught socially for real floors rather than judges.

I'm worried I have no rhythm. +

Ballroom is the gentlest possible test of that theory — steady tempos, counted figures, and a frame that keeps two people in time together. The rhythm-less regularly discover they simply hadn't been taught.

What shoes work best? +

Smooth-soled and secure — dress shoes, flats or a modest heel. Proper ballroom shoes are a pleasure to defer; grippy trainers are the only genuine mistake.

What ages come? +

The broadest range on the timetable — ballroom has no ceiling and this town proves it weekly. Every decade dances the same figures at its own tempo.

When do classes begin in Eastbourne? +

The timetable is being finalised now — leave your details via the contact page or on 07759 656300 and you'll receive the confirmed day, time and venue at first release.
